What is Connecting Activities?
Connecting Activities (CA) is a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education initiative that leverages statewide infrastructure to support college and career readiness for all students. This initiative provides structure work-based learning experiences for students that support both their academic and employability skill attainment. Through CA, students participate in a range of career-related activities that increase their career readiness and support their academic skill gain.
The MassHire Cape and Islands Workforce Board (CIWB) is responsible for overseeing the Connecting Activities initiative, along with all publicly funded vocational education and training programs, ensuring that public sector investments in education and training match up with local private sector needs.
The CA initiative uses the Work-Based Learning Plan as a tool to set goals and assess the students efforts throughout their work based learning experience. This tool is continuously refined through feedback received from students, parents, businesses and schools. Employers may also support the CA initiative by providing externship opportunities, giving educators the opportunity to visit companies and learn firsthand what skills employers are looking for.
